Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Every treatment course begins with a comprehensive evaluation.
Please wear or bring shorts if you have a hip or knee problem, sports bra or sleeveless top if you have a shoulder problem. Please bring walking or running shoes if you are coming for a walking or running injury or coming for a foot/ankle problem.
Yes, please do. Although we can request these from your doctor or lab facility, it is better if you provide them during your first visit so that we can perform a more complete and accurate evaluation.
You will be asked to fill out some basic paperwork, so please remember to bring your prescription for physical therapy.
We perform various types of treatments, and we will customize a program that combines the best techniques for your injury. The modalities and techniques we use include soft tissue massage, joint mobilization, electrical stimulation, stretching, therapeutic exercises, and ice. The treatment program will be performed in both a private treatment room and a gym setting, using a variety of athletic and rehabilitation equipment.
Because we focus on rehabilitation as well as performance enhancement, we have gym equipment, including a variety of equipment intended solely for rehabilitation.
At Mackarey & Mackarey Physical Therapy, you will always see the same physical therapist throughout your care, except for special circumstances such as scheduling difficulties or special diagnoses.
Generally, your initial visit will last over 1 hour, because the therapist will need to evaluate your condition, provide treatment, and give home instructions. Following visits may last from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on your injury and level of activity.
Most prescriptions and treatment schedules are for 2-3 visits per week, but this may vary based on your condition and physical ability. Physical therapy sessions typically last about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Treatment plans usually are from 6-12 weeks long, with regular re-evaluations and follow-up visits with your doctor.
You will find metered street parking, with handicapped spots and ramp, directly outside our office. The Forum Parking Garage, located on the corner of Franklin and Linden streets, is also open to the public.
We make every effort to ease the stress of parking in downtown Scranton. Recently, Scranton transitioned away from individual parking meters in favor of a parking kiosk system. There is a kiosk conveniently located directly in front of our office. In order to pay for parking, you simply need to know your license plate number.
If you are attending for the first time and would like help using the kiosk, we will be happy to help! Either call ahead and have one of our staff meet you at the kiosk, or come inside and let us know that you’d like a tutorial.
We will help you keep track of your meter time during your visit. If your initial meter time is going to expire during your visit, we will add time to the kiosk for you—you won’t have to run outside and interrupt your treatment.
As an alternative to the parking kiosks, you can download the Pango App, which allows you to pay for parking right from your phone. We are located in Pango Zone 1806.
You do not have to pay for parking before 8am, or after 5pm. Also after 5pm, a lot is available adjacent to our building, on the corner of Penn and Linden for free.

We strive to make your experience as stress-free as possible. If you have any special needs, please let us know what we can do for you.
